Eyesight is an integral part of your everyday life. It’s important to keep this in mind while making decision related to your vision, such as whether to get Laser Vision Correction Surgery.

There are various factors one should take into consideration before deciding to go for the surgery, let us have a look at them one by one:

Age

Age is the primary factor to be considered before going for a surgery of like this. You must wait until at least 18 years old to get laser vision correction, so that eyes attain stability of vision thus ready to undergo the surgery. People of presbyopic age group can go for the surgery.

Career

Laser surgery is implemented so as to get rid of other mediums of vision such as glasses, contact lenses and bring your eyesight to its best capability which might be important for starting a career as a professional athlete, an architect or a mechanical engineer.

Season

Though for a short period of time, one needs to take care of their eyes after undergoing the laser surgery. Therefore one should decide what time oy year suits them, like, some might go for summers so as to utilize their vacation for resting their eyes and enjoying the glasses-free look. Others might choose fall season as it helps avoid bright sunlight, less dusty atmosphere and prepare for the upcoming festive season beforehand.

Suitability Check

The doctor will take into account your general health along with any existing medical conditions that could disqualify you from having Laser Eye Surgery.

Pregnant women should not undergo Laser Eye Surgery as fluctuating hormone levels can affect measurements taking during the consultation stage. Parameters like, size of the pupil when fully dilated and the thickness of the cornea are checked for deciding your eligibility before you can be deemed suitable for Laser Eye Surgery.

You’re most likely to be suitable for laser eye surgery if your glasses prescription is in the range of:

Up to -10.00D of myopia or short sight
Up to +4.00D of hyperopia or long sight
Up to ±6.00D of astigmatism.

Patients may not be suitable for LVC if they have other eye conditions including cataracts, or problems with their eye surface.

Alternatives

Your doctor may suggest other surgical options as possible, if your spectacle prescription is outside the normal range for laser eye surgery.
