Have you been struggling throughout the day with extreme exhaustion? Are you struggling with your digestive and your gut health and just keep blaming the cooking skills of your chef? What about your extra sensitivity to perfumes and smells? If you have checked all the questions as yes, then definitely your liver is overloaded.

As we grow older we realize that our body gets tired easily and our ability to replenish and regain the energy level diminishes dramatically. It becomes more important to look after our organs. You must be bombarded with messages as to how to take care of your heart, skin, hair and digestive system once you grow old but no one warns you about how to take care of liver, which is responsible for most of the activities of the body.

Liver is a vital organ that plays a major role in various functions of the body. It regulates glycogen storage, decomposition of red blood cells, hormone production and detoxification among other essential functions. The best way to fight liver disease is to avoid it, if at all possible. Following are listed some of the tips in order to keep your liver healthy.

Maintain your weight

Overweight is one of the major concern which can lead you to having
fatty liver which can lead to non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, which is one of the fastest growing liver disease as a result of lifestyle disorder. Weight loss can play a major role in reducing the chances of such diseases.

Eat a balanced diet

Avoid high calorie, saturated fat and refined carbohydrates food (eg. White rice, white bread etc.) Avoid consumption of raw shellfish. Limit your intake of meat and fats. Increase your dairy consumption.

Exercise regularly

Regular exercise helps one to burn triglycerides for fuel and reduce liver fat.

Use alcohol wisely

Alcohol consumption can scar your liver or can even destroy the liver cells completely. Alcoholic beverages are one of the major reason of affecting heart and providing toxins to the body which ultimately puts a load on liver. Speak with your doctor what amount of alcohol is good for you or do you have to cut the alcohol completely.

Avoid contaminated needles

Dirty needles are not just unacceptable in hospital. Also tattoo and body piercing should use clean and sterile needles. One should keep a regular follow up with the healthcare practitioner if exposed to sharp instruments.

Practice safe sex

Unprotected or multiple sex partners can lead to deadly diseases like Hepatitis B and C. Practice safe sex.

Follow medication directions

Mixing of medicines or incorrect use of medicine can lead to major harm to liver. Never mix alcohol or medication even if taken at separate times. Consult your doctor in case of use of any over the counter drugs or health supplements.

Vaccinate yourself

Prevention is better than care. Vaccination can prevent you from deadly liver disease. Connect with your doctor to know more about vaccination. It’s comforting to know that, along with a balanced diet and a healthy lifestyle, we can protect our liver by providing the cells with the energy and antioxidant defenses they need. This helps in protecting the cells to live longer and slow the damage that has accumulated over the time in liver cells.
