Dr. Prashant Rao

Dr. Prashant Rao is a Consultant GI Minimal Access Surgeon, Onco-Surgeon and Bariatric Surgeon at SRV Hospitals. After having completed his MBBS from Nair Hospital and MS (General Surgery) from KEM Hospital, he completed his DNB in General Surgery. Thereafter, he successfully pursued his Diploma in Laparoscopic Surgery from Louis Pasteur University, France and his FRCS from Edinburgh, UK. He also has fellowships such as FMAS, FIAGES, FALS (Hon) in his list of qualifications. A certificate course in Hospital Administration from TISS, Mumbai completes his academic accomplishments. He has worked as foreign assistant to pioneering laparoscopic surgeon, Prof. Jacques Perissat in Maison du Haut Leveque, the largest teaching hospital in Bordeaux, France.

Dr. Rao has been in clinical and surgical private practice for many years and is also attending consultant and surgeon in several prominent hospital of Mumbai and its suburbs.

Dr. Rao has won several distinctions, awards and prizes in his academic life, notably the 1st rank in the MS General Surgery exams held in 1995 and the Dr. A. V. Baliga Memorial prize for securing the highest points in the MS examinations.

Dr. Prashant Rao has jointly pioneered Single Port Laparoscopic Surgery in May 2007. He is a teacher and examiner for Fellowship in Minimal Access Surgery (FMAS) at MUHS. He is also an examiner for the Maharashtra Nursing Council. He has multiple dissertations, papers and publications to his credit and has been invited as faculty and speaker both in international and national medical and surgical forums.

Dr. Rao is a member of Society of American Gastro–Endosurgeons (SAGES), member of Indian Association of Gastro-Endosurgeons (IAGES), member of Associations of Surgeons Of India (ASI), member of Association Of Medical Consultants Of India (AMC), member of National Academy Of Medical Sciences (MNAMS), Accreditation by the French Surgical and Digestive Society in Laparoscopic Surgery, member of Indian Medical Association (IMA), founder member of Indian chapter of International Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic Association (IHBPA), founder member of Association of Minimal Access Surgeons of India (AMASI) and member All India Association for Advances & Research In Obesity (AIAARO).
